Days 1-7GOOGLE REVIEWS · INSIDE GOOGLE'S RULES
Reviews are the first thing a customer checks before they ring. We set up a simple routine that asks every customer for a Google review at the moment the job is signed off, and keeps you well inside Google's rules while it does it.
Years of good work. A handful of reviews.
Plenty of trades have years of happy customers and only a few Google reviews to show for it. The work isn't the problem. Nobody asks, or they ask when they remember, which in a busy week is never. Meanwhile the firm down the road with a steady stream of reviews looks like the safer choice.
Reviews do more than reassure. Google says more reviews and positive ratings can help your business's local ranking, and for Local Services Ads, star ratings and the number of reviews affect how you're ranked. Every job you finish without asking is a little ranking you've handed to someone else.
The shortcuts are where people get burned. Google doesn't allow incentives for reviews, discounts included, and it doesn't allow asking only the customers you expect to be happy. Businesses caught out can have reviews removed, new reviews blocked for a period, or a warning shown on their profile. In the UK, commissioning fake reviews is also now a banned practice under consumer law. The safe way to more reviews is asking everyone, properly.

New reviews, your rating and recurring themes, reported in plain English each month.
No. Google's policy says businesses mustn't offer incentives, such as payment, discounts or free goods or services, in exchange for posting a review, or for changing or removing a negative one. A prize draw is still an incentive. Reviews posted that way can be removed and the profile restricted.
No. Google doesn't allow businesses to discourage negative reviews or to selectively ask for positive ones. The routine we set up asks every customer the same way. Google itself says a mix of positive and negative feedback often feels more trustworthy.
BizTap is our own tap-to-review product: branded NFC cards with a QR code on the back that take a customer to your reviews with one tap, with nothing to install. Hand one to every customer, not just the delighted ones, and it stays inside Google's rules. See how BizTap works.
A business can't remove a review itself: Google removes reviews only when they break its content policies, and the reviewer can edit or delete their own. If one breaks the rules, we'll report it through the proper route. If it doesn't, the best answer is a calm, honest reply, because future customers will read that too.
That depends on how many jobs you finish and how consistently your team asks, so we won't put a number on it. What we can say is that a routine which asks every customer beats remembering to ask now and then.
